The world is running out of ebony. The effects this will have on the world of guitar building is unfathomable. Starting with the fact that we’ll be seeing color streaks in ebony fretboards because only about 1 in 10 ebony trees have been considered “A” grade wood. Wood that is of a pure solid dark color that we think looks nice, that’s all, we just like how it looks. The other 9 trees would need to be cut down to even identify the quality of wood. The “B” grade wood was previously discarded over this ultra common and purely aesthetic flaw because it didn’t fetch enough dollar amount for the work put into harvesting it.
